Septic Compass is a free service that connects homeowners with licensed local septic companies. We are not a contractor and do not perform septic work.

The short answer

Backups happen when wastewater can't flow out — usually a full tank, a clog in the line, or a failing drain field. Heavy rain can also flood a saturated field and cause backups. Stop running water and call for service; continuing to use water makes the backup worse.
